A leading scientist has warned that people may experience changes to their fingernails after a Covid infection.
Professor Tim Spector, principal investigator of the Zoe Covid Symptom Study app, has said that nails which show a prominent ridge could be a sign that someone has had coronavirus already.
What do ‘Covid nails’ look like?
Prof Spector said that people who have a “clear line”, which creates a prominent ridge, growing out of the nail may have had Covid before.
The fingernail marks are usually harmless and can be caused by any illness, meaning the symptom is not specific to coronavirus alone.

A scientist has warned of a new symptom people should look out for which may show if you ve contracted coronavirus in the past.
Professor Tim Spector, who leads the Zoe Symptom Study app, said people who had a clear line on their nails may have had the virus. The line could be caused by the interruption of growth to your nail due to injury or illness. The professor also said this could occur without skin rashes and appeared to be harmless.
