‘Hospitals cannot deny treatment for black fungus’

With increase in
black fungus cases, the
Health Department has issued strict instructions that no hospital should deny treatment to those seeking medical assistance.
Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said, “The treatment of post-Covid Mucormycosis or black fungus infection found in some covid cases requires a multi-disciplinary approach involving
ENT specialist, anaesthetist, ophthalmologist and maxillofacial surgeon. Mucormycosis is now a notifiable disease and no hospital or medical establishment having the capacity to provide treatment should deny admission of patients. An official government order towards this will be notified soon.
