With Covid-19 cases rapidly increasing in India, the country reported an all-time high of 1,03,558 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours. This pushed the total tally to 1,25,89,067, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.
The single-day rise in cases surpassed the earlier peak of 97,894 infections reported on September 17, last year, making it the highest since the pandemic began in India.
The death toll increased to 1,65,101with 478 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.
With a steady increase for the 26th day in a row, the active caseload in the country is 7,41,830, comprising 5.89 per cent of the total infections while 1,16,82,136 people have recovered from the disease.

Pune district in Maharashtra reported a single-day spike of over 10,000 Covid-19 cases for the first time on Saturday, taking the district s tally to 5,62,335, an official said.
As many as 10,827 cases were registered in the district, while 66 patients died and 3,293 people recovered from the disease, he added.
Of the new cases, Pune city accounted for 5,720, Pimpri Chinchwad 2,832 and the rest were in the district s rural and cantonment areas, he said.
