HUBBALLI/ BIDAR: Amid mounting anxiety over availability of beds and oxygen with Covid-19 cases rising in the seven districts comprising the Belagavi division – Dharwad, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Gadag, Uttara Kannada and Haveri – the authorities have taken steps to ensure that taluk hospitals and other healthcare institutions are in a position to accommodate all infected patients.
Across the division, 5,880 beds have been arranged at government hospitals in the seven districts, including those supplied with oxygen and those in the ICU.
Divisional joint director of health and family welfare Dr Prabhu Biradar said that government hospitals and health centres had been directed to tend to patients with mild to moderate symptoms of Covid-19. “In taluk hospitals, around 50% of the beds have oxygen supply, and each of them has around two to five ventilators. And if the situation worsens, all these hospitals are prepared to handle the load,” Dr Biradar added.
