The Centre has directed the states to only use freshly procured Covid-19 vaccine stocks for inoculating those above the age of 18 from May 1. Private hospitals too have to procure fresh vaccines and cannot use the existing stock. From May 1, all adults are eligible to get the Covid-19 vaccine.
The Centre said it had provided more than 15 crore vaccines to states free of cost. More than 1 crore doses are still available with the states/UTs and more than 80 lakh doses would be sent in the next 3 days. However, several states have expressed their inability to start dosing those above 18 from May 1, since vaccine manufacturers have said that adequate supply of vaccines could only be ensured after May 15.
