Two young sisters are calling their dad a real-life superhero after London, Ont.-native Bronson Deagle rescued a family of four from drowning at a Grand Bend beach.
LONDON, ONT. London firefighters are investigating the cause of a massive blaze in a vacant factory building at 10 Centre St., just off of Wharncliffe Road South. It was eventually brought under control late Tuesday night. The smoke was so thick and heavy that the city sent has sent out a warning to anyone within one kilometre of the site to keep their doors and windows shut. “You’ll notice that the smoke is yellow, brown, black, all different colours, so there’s a lot of different things that are burning inside the building,” said Platoon Chief Gary Mosburger. “That kind of smoke produces heavy levels of carbon monoxide, hydrogen, cyanide, things that people should not be breathing in. So we’ve asked people to protect in place, shut off their hvac systems, close their windows, and stay indoors.”
LONDON, ONT. A London, Ont. swimmer has crossed Lake Ontario to raise awareness for an important cause, wait times for organ transplants. Jillian Best arrived in Toronto shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday after starting her swim Tuesday night in the Niagara Region. The 52-kilometre journey had been expected to take about 18 hours to complete. She was greeted by a crowd of supporters at Marilyn Bell Park Bell being the first person to swim across Lake Ontario. Best was in tears as she responded to questions after her swim. I don t know if it s sunk in yet.that was as hard as it was worth it, she said. I couldn t have done that alone, I had the best crew with me and they were so great. I don t know what else to say. I m overwhelmed.
