He added: “Despite the fact that I feel strong and in good shape after a few days in hospital, I have agreed with my doctors to undertake the mandatory quarantine.”
A statement by Nairobi Hospital’s Dr David Olunya has also confirmed that the former premier has the SARS-CoV-2.
“He is responding well to the treatment he is receiving at the Nairobi Hospital and remains upbeat,” his personal doctor said.
Earlier, Raila had thanked Kenyans for their overwhelming support saying that he was recuperating well.
“Wakenya wenzangu, Thank you for the overwhelming messages of goodwill. I’m feeling much, much, better now and following doctors’ orders. Asanteni!” he tweeted.

Kenya Power’s profit after tax for the first six months trading period ended December 31, 2020 fell by 80 per cent, hurt by the coronavirus pandemic.
The power distributor said yesterday its net profit fell to Sh138 million for six months from Sh692 million in the same period of 2019.
It blamed the loss on the effects of Covid-19 restrictions last year that depressed its sales.
Revenue from contracted customers fell marginally to Sh69 billion last year from Sh69.6 billion in the same period of the previous year.
The firm, registered on February 14, 2020, was awarded contracts worth Sh1,030,000,000 in May 2020 to supply 100,000 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) and 100,000 KN95 masks.
The firm also supplied PPE to Bennets Ventures, Edumart Enterprises and Trade Shop, which in turn supplied to Kemsa at a profit.
In a previous session, the committee was told by the suspended Kemsa procurement director Charles Juma how they were under pressure from the suspended chief officer Jonah Manjari to draft a commitment letter to the firm amid reports that the document was backdated.

The Global Hunger Report gives Kenya a score of 23.7, which lists it among 40 countries with a serious risk of hunger. The scores range between 0-100, with countries with lower figures having low levels of hunger.
By that score, Kenya, and much of the world is behind the aspiration to eradicate hunger by 2030, said Kelvin Shingles, the Country Director of Welthungerhilfe (WHH), the organisation that produces the annual reports
