Coronavirus in Bengaluru: Two new COVID-19 clusters emerge

Bengaluru: Two new Covid-19 clusters emerged in Bengaluru on Saturday, prompting the State Health Minister K Sudhakar to issue a warning on a possible second wave of the coronavirus.
Officials of Bengaluruâs civic body, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), have stepped up vigil. One cluster was detected in a multi-storey dwelling unit. The second cluster was reported from a Government High School, which falls under the KR Puram constituency.
With this, the total number of clusters has gone up to 12.
The Health Minister requested residents in the state to avoid large gatherings for the next month in view of the rising number of Covid cases in the state. Seven University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa students have tested positive for COVID-19.
The University and Department of Health are working to contain the apparent cluster found in on-campus student housing. Three close contacts, who are also student residents, have been found through contact tracing.
The 10 students (7 positive and 3 close contacts) have been temporarily moved to isolate off-campus. Six of the seven who tested positive have no in-person classes this semester. The seventh has a hybrid course, but health officials determined that they were infected after the last time the class met in-person.
All of the dorm rooms involved have been closed while building and common areas have been cleaned and disinfected.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], January 3 (ANI): A total of 85 employees of Chennai s ITC Grand Chola Hotel have tested positive for COVID-19 since December 15 last year, said Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Saturday.
As many as 16 and 13 cases were reported on December 31, 2020, and January 1, 2021.
The Corporation tested 609 employees till now from the hotel in and around the residences of the staff, 85 have so far been found to be positive, Greater Chennai Corporation said.
The corporation has ordered COVID-19 testing of all employees of luxury hotels in the city, following reports of a cluster at ITC Grand Chola. The civic staff under Joint Commissioner of Health, GCC, S Dhivyadarshini conducted camps and all employees and guests were advised to undergo testing at ITC.
