Published April 14, 2021 11:53am The Department of Health on Wednesday said the government must always be on guard as another surge in COVID-19 cases in the Philippines remain a possibility. This was Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire’s statement after National Task Force Against COVID-19 and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Tuesday warned of another surge in June or July. “We have to qualify the statement of Secretary Galvez. He was just trying to say that there might be this possibility of another surge in the coming months if we are not going to continuously comply with the protocols and if we are not going to be able to contain the spread of this virus,” Vergeire said in an interview with CNN Philippines.

PANTI, GMA News State-run broadcaster People s Television Network (PTV) will not be holding the regular Laging Handa briefing on the government’s COVID-19 response from March 17 to 21 due extensive disinfection amid rising coronavirus cases. In a statement, PTV said that the station will go off air on March 17, and resume broadcast on March 18 and that its flagship programs Laging Handa Public Briefing and Ulat Bayan “will be back on air on Monday, March 22.” “This is an effort to ensure the safety and well being of its employees and staff at this time of rising COVID-19 cases in the country,” PTV said.

Sotto made the appeal as the country entered its first year on lockdown amid the continued threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. When the vaccines are available for distribution, don’t pass on the opportunity, get vaccinated. Let us be proactive in addressing the pandemic. You need to protect yourselves, Sotto said in a statement. And of course, let us not forget the basics – wear face masks and shields when in public places, observe social distancing and personal hygiene, he added.
