The Westborough Lions Club recently held its first annual Rubber Duck Derby at the Mill Pond Spillway in Westborough.
Due to the pandemic, it was an all-virtual event with online duck sales and the race broadcast on Facebook Live. The club held the race to raise funds for a $1,000 scholarship for a graduating senior at Westborough High School this June. A total of 341 ducks were adopted by the public and raced down the Spillway to the finish line.
It was a contested race as the lead changed several times, with the winning duck, #2000, adopted by Greg Conlan, taking the lead in the last few seconds of the race. As the adopter of the first-place finisher, Conlan netted 50% of the proceeds with a check for $1,310.70.
