Photo: Hollywood Pictures 1993 “The Joy Luck Club,” San Francisco filmmaker Wayne Wang’s landmark adaptation of Bay Area author Amy Tan’s sweeping novel about the complicated relationships between Chinese American women and their immigrant mothers, has been selected as one of 25 movies inducted this year into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. The annual list of 25 films deemed of “cultural, historic or aesthetic importance to the nation’s film heritage was announced by the Library of Congress on Monday, Dec. 14. That means the films will be preserved in perpetuity by the registry. The number of films that have been accorded the honor is now 800, a fraction of the 1.3 million films in the library’s collections.
