Chief Justice Roberts made the announcement. He added, quote, today we mourn but with confidence future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her. Ginsburg was 87 years old. She was the second woman appointed to the court and served more than 27 years. She spent most of her legal career fighting for equality and obtained pop culture status as the notorious rbg after the court struck down a key provision of the Voting Rights act of 2013.
