Good day to all of you from msnbc World Headquarters here in new york. Welcome to weekends with alex witt. We begin with President Biden saying donald trump should not receive Intelligence Briefings. In a new interview with cbs, biden breaking with tradition, saying trump has no need for those intel briefings now that hes out of office. Should former President Trump still receive Intelligence Briefings . I think not. Why not . Because of his erratic behavior unrelated to the insurrection. I just think that theres no need for him to have that Intelligence Briefing. What value is giving him an Intelligence Briefing . What impact does he have at all, other than the fact he might slip and Say Something . Also in that interview, the president says he will not budge on the 1,400 stimulus checks but maybe taking a more targeted approach on exactly who will receive those checks. I will talk with Congressman Ro about covid relief in just a moment. Today marks one month since the attack of capit
Necessary, i will allow a 62nd rebuttal. Mr. Harrison, we begin with your opening statement. Mr. Harrison thank you for having me. Its good to see you and thank you, south korea. Our motto for this rate state is while i breathe, i hope. That might as well be the theme of my life. I grew up in a mobile home. My parents a fourth grade and eighth grade education. Hard able to because of work go on to yale and georgetown. I went to capitol hill and worked for congressman jim clyburn. I worked in the private sector, and now i am running for the United States senate. That only happens in america. That is why this country is so great. In that time, we had senator Lindsey Graham, who i respected and admired because he could rise above the political fray. The problem is, my friends, senator graham has changed. That is not the senator graham of today. We need a senator who can bring us all together, who can unite this state, regardless if you ,re a democrat, republican progressive or conservativ
Focusing on rushing through a nominee to the United States Supreme Court rather than doing everything we can to work across the aisle to craft a solution. To the problems, the crises facing our nation. Tens of millions of americans, unemployed. Hundreds of thousands of businesses permanentlylo closed. Schools all over the country either not yet open or just barely opened, and thousands upon thousands of americans died alone in pain, and comforted by family, uncertain of how they came to be in this place and cared for by their country. Eight. 5million infected 220,000 or more dead. We are in the middle of a tragic pandemic and a recession made worse by our presence bungled mishandling of the pandemic, and instead of coming together to provide the reliefteng that all states d all people are calling for, we are doing this. We are doing this. Instead, my republican colleagues are walking over dangerous precipice doing something according to graham was unthinkable just two years ago , in th
By the effects of the covid19 pandemic. Cases are still rising, as a matter of fact a record was set . Just the last couple days was set . Just the last couple days. Small businesses are unfortunately closing at an accelerating rate. Paw foreclosures and evisions are on the rise. Jobless benefits are running out and our state and local governments are running dangerously low on resources to assist teachers, first responders, firefighters, and so many others. But rather than focusing on the immediate needs of the American People and acting to remove the uncertainty being felt by families across this country and in the commonwealth of virginia, the senate is preparing to pursue a partisan exercise to fundamentally alter the composition of our Supreme Court. This comes as we are just a week away from november 3, when americans will go to the polls to cast their ballots in a president ial election. In my state, in the commonwealth of virginia, literally almost two million virginians have a
Pandemic that has already claimed more than 225,000 american lives. We are 00 mere eight days away we are a mere eight days a away from a president ial election. Donald trump announced his nomination of judge barrett even before we could fully mourn the death of the great Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg. And Senate Republicans then rushed this nomination to the senate floor. In doing so, they violated the rule that their leader, Mitch Mcconnell, imposed in 2016 which kept Merrick Garland off the Supreme Court after president obama nominated him in february of that year to fill the vacancy that arose with the death of justice antonin scalia. That rule was clear. That rule was concise. That rule was definitive. The senate would not consider a nomination to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court during a president ial election year. Many of my republican colleagues echoed leader mcconnells pledge. In fact, my colleague, senator Lindsey Graham, who chairs the judiciary committee, admonished us to
