Galesburg man gets 13-year federal prison term for selling meth

A Galesburg man got an early Christmas present of 13 years in federal prison. 39-year-old Christopher Lee Mixon was sentenced this week on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Mixon's 156-month sentence will be followed by 4 years of supervised release. Chief U.S. District Court Judge Sara Darrow found that Mixon qualified as a career offender for previous convictions for distributing cocaine and attempted aggravated discharge of a weapon. Prosecutors presented evidence in April that Mixon sold about 42 grams of meth that was 99 percent pure in April of 2021, and then 48 grams that tested 90 percent pure in May of 2021. Law enforcement then executed a search warrant at Mixon's home in May in which they located 52 grams of meth. Mixon later admitted he began selling meth weekly in December 2020. Mixon was indicted in June of 2021 and pleaded guilty in August of this year.
