Nine days ago, one Juneteenth event was postponed, but Saturday it was a different story as the sun was shining and the celebration was in full swing.
The Krewe of Legends Mardi Gras Association and Course Construction hosted an event at John Henry Beck Park to celebrate Juneteenth. There was a live DJ, tasty food, and basketball.
The Juneteenth event was also a time to help support small businesses and help the community come together. Leonard Jackson said, “What we’re trying to do here is not only celebrate Juneteenth, but instill, if not restore, a sense of pride in our communities and this neighborhood. There are a lot of things and a lot of people here doing good work who aren’t getting credit for it. We took this opportunity today to thank those people and to show them some appreciation.”
