Everyone could use a little extra cash - right? Especially if that money is yours in the first place.  That s the aim of Douglas County publishing their Unclaimed Funds list and making it available to the general public. The county ends up holding on to unclaimed funds for a variety of different reasons.  But they are required to make an effort to try and return the money to its rightful owners using the methods it has available at its disposal.  According to the legal description published on the website: [The t]reasurer..pursuant to Section 59.66 Wis. Stats., is required to publish in Douglas County a Class 3 notice, under ch.985, on or before February 1, which contains a listing of name and last known addresses of all persons for whom Douglas County is holding money or security that has a value of at least $20. 9 & 10 News Michigan Association of County Treasurers Responds to Lawsuits What we had was a situation where state tax law was in conflict with the new Supreme Court ruling. January 25, 2021 Michigan County Treasurers are speaking out after word of state and federal lawsuits over the proceeds from tax foreclosures. We reported last week that an attorney has filed class-action lawsuits in 19 counties, and is working on a federal suit against 43 counties – claiming that treasurers are going against a state Supreme Court ruling. At that time, 9&10 contacted two of the affected counties in northern Michigan, but we did not receive a response from our request for comment.

Stephens’ Government Efficiency & Transparency Bill signed into law Staff Report COLUMBUS State Representative Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) on Monday announced Gov. Mike DeWine signed House Bill 450 into law last week. Sponsored by Stephens, House Bill 450 will create a Certificate of Transition aimed at ensuring a more transparent and efficient exchange of information between outgoing and incoming fiscal officers, according to a news release. “I am humbled to see the hard work that my colleagues and I have put into this instrumental piece of legislation pay off today as House Bill 450 is officially signed into law,” said Stephens. “As a former County Auditor, I am confident this bill will be helpful in implementing smooth transitions from an outgoing to an incoming fiscal officer. Part of my job as State Representative is to ensure transparency and proficiency throughout Ohio. House Bill 450 achieves exactly that.”
