The county’s public schools have seen a persistent spike in the number of COVID-19 cases since Thanksgiving. Officials said Monday that if the trend continues, Pitt County Schools may have a virtual start for the spring semester. Since the week before Thanksgiving break, when 11 school-affected cases were reported, the number has more than tripled.
