cschuldt@nujournal.com Staff photo by Clay Schuldt The Brown County Public Health office, above, received more COVID-19 vaccines this week than ever before, and is encouraging those 65 and older to sign up for vaccinations. BROWN COUNTY This week Brown County received more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine than ever before. Brown County Public Health Director Karen Moritz said the county received 1,475 doses of the vaccine this week. This is a significant increase. Moritz said last week, less than a thousand doses were distributed to the county. “We’re making progress,” Moritz said. Last week Hy-Vee in New Ulm and Thrifty White in Springfield received does of the vaccine, joining Public Health, New Ulm Medical Center (NUMC) and Sleepy Eye Medical Center (SEMC) in delivering the vaccine to the public.

BROWN COUNTY Brown County Public Health (BCPH) reported vaccinating 390 school staff and daycare providers in the New Ulm High School and Sleepy Eye Elementary School gyms Feb. 3. The New Ulm site vaccinated 220 people. There were 170 people vaccinated in Sleepy Eye. Brown County Public Health Director Karen Moritz said nobody reported serious adverse reactions at the clinics. “A little bit of a sore arm and slight fatigue are common side effects that people may not report,” Moritz said.

The Sleepy Eye Herald Dispatch Brown County Public Health Director Karen Moritz is a busy person as she and the BCPH staff manage so many aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic in our area. Despite their busy schedule, Moritz also answers the questions of local journalists to help provide the latest information to the public. This week, Moritz had a bit of good news as she reported Brown County is seeing lower case numbers for the last 10 days.    “We would like to thank the Brown County residents for following COVID-19 prevention  guidelines and the businesses that are on pause to help slow the spread of the illness,” said Mortiz.
