With the arrival of extra vaccines, increased capacity at a new clinic and rescheduled appointments nearly completed, Maui Health is looking to ramp up new first-dose appointments to 3,000 next week and 4,000 the week after.
Spokeswoman Tracy Dallarda said that Maui Health is finishing “the last batch of about 1,000” of the 5,000 people whose appointments had to be rescheduled after clinics closed in January due to a shortage of the vaccine.

West Maui fisherman Nick Cleveland took pictures last April of a Goodfellow Bros. excavator partially submerged in the ocean fronting Hololani condominiums in Kahana. The images led to a $75,000 county violation fine against the condominium association and the contractor over environmental and permitting issues, which is being appealed by both parties. Hololani Resort Condominiums and Goodfellow Bros. are appealing a $75,000 county violation alleging their shoreline restoration work temporarily put the environment at risk.
The Maui Planning Commission must decide on the appeal, which began Tuesday during the commission’s regular meeting. After about five hours of testimony and questioning, the contested case hearing was recessed to a special meeting at 9 a.m. Jan. 27.
