Health Official Concerned Reports Of Vaccinated People Getting COVID-19 Could Cause Doubts

0:41 A new state report indicates that 246 people in Michigan have come down with COVID-19 despite being vaccinated, and three have died. While alarming, that’s a tiny percentage of the number of people in the state who have been vaccinated. Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail says there still is broad transmission and many people remain unvaccinated. Those factors increase the risk that a vaccinated person can contract COVID. “Once we have both a very high efficacy vaccine and herd immunity, she explains, we should see far less of that.” Vail adds that several factors  might be to blame, stating that some people perhaps got exposed days after their first dose, or in some cases basically may have been incubating and not tested positive, or not feeling symptoms yet before their first dose, or in-between doses.”

246 fully vaccinated Michiganders contracted COVID-19, state says

State health officials say 246 fully vaccinated Michiganders contracted coronavirus from January to March, and three have died.  These are individuals who have had a positive test 14 or more days after the last dose in the vaccine series, said Lynn Sutfin, a spokesperson for the state health department. Some of the 246 people may ultimately be excluded from the state s tally of vaccine breakthrough cases because they may have had earlier coronavirus infections and still tested positive two weeks post-immunization.  These cases are undergoing further review to determine if they meet other (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) criteria for determination of potential breakthrough, including the absence of a positive antigen or PCR test less than 45 days prior to the post-vaccination positive test, Sutfin said.

There s a significant ability to basically catch that virus and then move it around, and then you re moving it around by traveling and going other places, so it s just a good time to be safe.”
