redlands. i don t know if they lived there or if it was something they had listed or another family member. i don t know that yet. are you aware if the suspect was invited to this party, if he was to be there originally or if he showed up spontaneously? it s my understanding that he is a county employee. that was part of the party or event that had taken place and he attended the same event last yee year. this was a party, not a training session? i ve told it was a meeting from a christmas meeting gathering luncheon this county office was having. is there any evidence his job was in jeopardy? i don t have any information on that. the explosives that were found, pipe bombs, propane tanks, complicated devices? i don t know exactly. i think we re leaning more towards a pipe bomb type design but specifically what was made of i don t have any information.
at this point. the reason in how we came across that, and i ll just kind of talk about the investigation a little bit. i ll talk about the investigation a little bit. there was some questions you guys asked in an earlier press conference about a person that had left the meeting angry. this was a meeting, christmas party type event that was taking place with employees at the inland regional center. mr. farook is a county employee. he works with his title as an environmental specialist in the public health department, has been employed there for five years. he was at the party, he did leave the party early under some circumstances that were described as angry or something of that nature. that is the information that we were following up on when we encountered him back near this residence in redlands, which led to the pursuit of the officer-involved shooting. and as we ve now confirmed, he s one of the deceased.
[ inaudible ]. so we have this crime scene, we have the crime scene up on san bernadino avenue, we have the house in redlands where our information took us to. that s being actively worked as well. and as i said, mr. farook was a county employee. we obviously secured his office space if n case that has any component to the investigation. [ inaudible ]. he is on it is a residence listed for him. i don t know if it was living there. what s the motive then? we don t have the motive at this point. i m really being careful because we all know that when these types of things happen, we ve seen this happen time and time again. there s a lot of information that. co-s out in the first day in the first couple of day ps. and that information changes significantly in the days that follow. so until we know the motive or we really have a clear something clear evidentiary based on that motive, i just
could provide any information as to how all of this went down. they have said, and you might have noted this, john, that they said it was a rather confined space in this where this party was taking place and there was a lot of talk that perhaps it could have been much worse. the suspects, of course, leaving well before police could get there and then heading redlands. there s a number of investigations going on. one at the townhouse, within at farook s office because he was a county employee, and where you are as well. paul, thank you for the latest. police are also saying that part of this investigation is focusing on the explosives which were found inside that community center. information coming to us from the justice correspondent, evan perez, says explosives were found in the center in a row mote control car, and the
leaving behind an explosive device. after police followed a lead to a nearby home they chased on suv and gun battle ensued wounding an officer and officials feared the homemade bombs. the atf officer responded and determined that it was just a very thick pipe with a piece of cloth that was made to look like a fuse but did not contain any explosives. in the end, 28-year-old county employee farook and his partner were dead. at this time, police believe they are the only suspects in the massacre. officials say farook attended the holiday party and later returned to open fire. so far, they have not found a motive. base on what we ve seen and how they were equipped there had to be some degree of planning put into this. i don t think they ran home and put on these clothes and came
