EVA Women’s Aid, based in Redcar, has now had its new course – Changes – accredited by a national examining body, OCN London. CEO Richinda Taylor said the news of the successful accreditation was a moment of hope in a tough year, arriving in time for International Women’s Day. Mrs Taylor commented: “I am very proud of our team for what they have achieved. We have two courses with waiting lists, Freedom and EVA-lution, and Changes came in response to women asking us for the next step.

Thornton Pocket Park in Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, was threatened with closure two years ago after becoming run down and poorly used. But thanks to a campaign by residents and funding secured through Pelton Parish Council, the park was saved and has since been greatly improved. As part of the next stage of its redevelopment, a £5,000 grant was obtained from property and energy firm The Banks Group’s Banks Community Fund to help bring new seating into the park.

The Darlington-based 700 Club has been given money for a project aiming to encourage people to stop begging and seek longer term help. The charity will be able to employ an outreach worker, who will working with people in the town who are begging or sleeping rough. During the pandemic, the 700 Club has been providing temporary accommodation and support services.
