Burlington, IA- The Des Moines County Sheriff's Office says a Mount Pleasant man has been charged after he assaulted a County Corrections Officer. According to a news release, at about 1:26 PM Tuesday, May 30th, Des Moines County deputies responded to the Des Moines County Correctional Center for an assault of a correctional officer. Deputies were advised that an inmate, 23-year-old Victor Manuel Gonzalez of Mount Pleasant had assaulted a correctional officer. Deputies reviewed surveillance video of the incident and observed Gonzalez attacking the officer without any sort of provocation. Gonzalez punched the Correctional Officer in the head several times. The Correctional Officer then attempted to deploy a Taser at Gonzalez, but it was unsuccessful. Gonzalez then attempted to place a choke hold on the Correctional Officer and continued to punch the Correctional Officer in the head.
