Dozens gathered at Greenwood Cemetery to honor more than 200 Black military servicemen and women on the morning of Memorial Day.
Rep. Al Lawson has spearheaded this effort for three years and has seen a growth in the number of participants with each Memorial Day.
Local elected officials including County Commissioners Rick Minor, Carolyn Cummings, and Brian Welch, City Commissioners Diane Williams-Cox and Curtis Richardson, as well as Rep. Allison Tant were in attendance.
Members of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club led four teams throughout the cemetery, making sure no gravesites were overlooked.
Welch, who is also a world history teacher at Chiles High School, brought his wife and their four children with him and used the time as a learning opportunity for his kids.
