Alabama man sentenced to life without parole for killing ex-wife at her bakery
Updated Dec 16, 2020;
A Morgan County man was sentenced today to spend the rest of his life in prison for the 2015 murder of his ex-wife at her bakery in Decatur.
Roger Dale Stevens, 68, was convicted of capital murder last month for the killing of Kay Letson Stevens. Kay Stevens was 62 when she was shot to death at the Corner Bakery on Nov. 14, 2015 a day after her divorce was finalized. Prosecutors said Roger Stevens killed his ex-wife because “she got everything” in the final divorce decree.
“The love of money is the root of all evil, and Kay Stevens felt the full brunt of that evil that day,” said Morgan County District Attorney Scott Anderson, who prosecuted the case with Assistant DA Paul Matthews.
