With Election Day quickly approaching on Nov. 7, many Beltrami County residents will have just one item on their ballot: a referendum on how to fund the new jail for the county.
In a special meeting on Wednesday morning, the Beltrami County Board of Commissioners approved a donation agreement for the Crown Property as the site of the new county jail.
Beltrami County is eyeing a property half of a mile south of the Fifth Street roundabout to construct a new jail, with the county board approving a contract to purchase the lot for $540,000.
During his visit to Bemidji last week, U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber, who represents Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District, had the chance to tour the Beltrami County Jail on Feb. 16.
As a part of its meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 3, the Beltrami County Board welcomed three newly elected officials and said goodbye to those ending their service.
