San Joaquin Delta College and the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors have teamed up to allocate millions of dollars in funding to provide up to 1,000 students with paid internship opportunities.
The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously at its meeting last week to match the $2 million in funds already approved by the college s Board of Trustees that will go to the Delta College Student Career Internship Program. The initiative aims to provide a work-based learning opportunity to Delta College students.
Delta College serves about 26,000 students, helping them to train for jobs or transfer to four-year institutions, Delta College President and District Superintendent Omid Pourzanjani told the board at its Tuesday meeting. He said that many in the community are either unemployed or underemployed.
