ordinary life. you re the cat with nine lives, aren t you? yeah. and now you ve gone to nashville which in many ways is the obvious spiritual home for you, i would think. it is. i have a long relationship with nashville, but when i first got signed to a record deal, country wasn t what it was now. it was much more traditional. i moved to l.a. i was a schoolteacher at the time. i got an audition with michael jackson. i landed back in l.a. and tried to get a record deal and everybody said you were too country. ultimately, i crashed a party, swing release party. i was a waitress and handed my cassette to the producer and got a record deal. it wasn t until after i was diagnosed with breast cancer i realized after 15 years of touring, i didn t have roots anywhere. i felt like i wasn t tethered to anything. so i decided i ll change my life and move closer to home. my sister lives there and family
