At a time when independent musicians are more vulnerable than ever, local country singer/songwriter, Steve Newsome is reaching new heights of success.
Last month, he signed an American radio distribution deal with Nashville-based AOK Records & Production. The company will oversee the dispersal of Newsome’s latest release, “Cold Beer Communion” to over 4000 U.S. radio stations.

“It was overwhelming. I’m still blown away by it all but this is one of the things that speaks to the song and I’m really privileged that I got the opportunity to record it,” Newsome said.

A Sherwood Park man who’s made a name for himself in the provincial country music scene is getting some attention.
The 2020 Country Music Alberta Awards nominations have been announced and Josh Ruzycki, a 2016 Bev Facey grad who is a freelance musician, has been nominated as Musician of the Year.

“It is a huge honour and I think this is my third year in a row I’ve been up for Top 5. It is a great honour that I’m recognized in that way. This year being the way that it is, it feels a little underserving because I haven’t been able to play a lot because all of the shows and performances have been cancelled this year,” Ruzycki said. “Being nominated for the award is a huge honour but at the same time I don’t feel like I deserve to be in this category with all these other amazing musicians.”
