Many American families once had stereoscopes in their parlors, where they amused themselves on long winter days by looking at eye-popping, 3-D images of places they hoped to visit, including Florida. Shivering in northern cities in January, they could imagine being surrounded by steamboats and citrus groves, silvery lakes and sandy city streets. A Columbia man is facing further domestic assault charges and others after a previous similar conviction in February.
Gavin N. Sardis, 20, of Columbia, was arrested Monday on two counts of third-degree domestic assault, first- and third-degree kidnapping, armed criminal action and tampering with evidence. All charges against him are felonies, except for third-degree kidnapping, which is listed as a misdemeanor.
Columbia Police Department officer George Chiang learned of the previous conviction in his investigation of two incidents involving Sardis and his girlfriend over the weekend. Sardis had pleaded guilty Feb. 1 to a Dec. 15 fourth-degree domestic assault incident, a misdemeanor, and was convicted to 30 days in jail, but had received credit for time served.
