prices continue to climb. as crude climbs, gas prices will climb, and all the costs roll down to consumers so i would fully expect to see if we continue to see this kind of aggression from iran, $4.50 this summer, and we could possibly see $5 or higher and even if there is no action taken because of taxes. the real answer here, neil, is an alternate fuel: natural gas. so hopefully this will spur the u.s. to finally realize we are so overly dependent on foreign oil we will take action to build our own supplies at home. neil: good job, thank you. and gas prices doubling since the president took office, and in many parts of the country drivers are already paying north of $4 a gallon. they are not very happy about it. what does it mean for the president s re-election bid? and our reporter is in chevy chase, maryland. guest: they have broken through the $4 barrier here at this station in chevy chase,
but with gas prices there above the national average, rising energy costs were front and center. it hurts. reporter: as oil prices continue to climb, so do gas prices. in some parts of the country drivers are paying $5 per gallon. 50-mile-plus round trip, so we re over $110 a week. reporter: it s not just drivers who are feeling the pinch. the world s largest airline, united/continental, said it lost $213 million in the first three months of this year. all because its fuel bill spiked nearly $600 million. the obama administration said that attorney general eric holder will put together a team to investigate possible fraud or manipulation in the oil markets. we re going to make sure that nobody is taking advantage of american consumers for their own short-term gain. reporter: each dollar increase in oil typically translates to an extra four cents per gallon at the gas pump, so americans can expect the national average of $3.84 to climb quickly toward $4 in the coming days.
