Charges dropped against one man in DeKalb homicide case

DEKALB — As of Monday, murder and weapons charges against John C. Anson in the shooting death of a Rossie man have been dismissed, according to the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office. The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office was initially called for a burglary in progress at about 2:30 a.m. May 4, at 580 County Route 18, where deputies say they found 40-year-old Justin A. Massey “deceased with a gunshot to his body.” Charges were initially filed that day against two of the property’s residents, father and son Charles M. Anson, 51, and John, 29, as well as Kayla M. Briggs, 25, of DeKalb Junction.

Sheriff’s deputies were initially called to the residence at about 2:30 a.m. for a burglary in progress, and upon arrival, found Mr. Massey “deceased with a gunshot to his body.” John C. Anson, 29, a resident of the address, was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Richville man charged with murdering Rossie man; two others arrested following investigation

Wednesday, May 5, 2021 - 4:42 am RICHVILLE A Richville man has been charged with murdering a Rossie man. St. Lawrence County sheriff s deputies said they charged 30-year old John Anson with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. Deputies responded Tuesday around 2:30 a.m. to a reported burglary at 580 CR 18 in DeKalb Junction and discovered the deceased body of Justin Massey, 40. Officers said Massey had a gunshot wound to his body. Deputies said they also charged Charles M. Anson, 51, Richville, with three counts of reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence, all felonies. Also charged was 25-year old Kayla Briggs of DeKalb Junction. She was charged with tampering with physical evidence, felony.
