The director of Economic Policy for the Bipartisan Policy Center is here to talk about the deal made yesterday, tying emergency disaster funding to the debt ceiling, and keeping the government running through december. Lets break down what is in the deal. The debt limit, what is it . The debt limit limits the amount that the federal government can borrow. Right now, we have close to 20 trillion in outstanding debt. Congress has put a limit on that amount. We have reached that limit, so as of march, we are not allowed to borrow additional dollars to Fund Spending that the federal government has to do. If the extraordinary measures that the treasury secretary is using, accounting maneuvers, basically, if they run out, we wont be able to pay the nations bills on time. We project that that will happen in early to mid october, close to the point where those maneuvers wi
