all right. that s alina down on the coast right now talking about the shark attacks. i understand about ten in the carolinas this year already. normally they get an average of six so there is an uptick. one of the reasons could be more people in the water right now. but they are watching that very closely. other news this morning all over the united states officials are warning of a potential july fourth terror threat. security being stepped up over this holiday weekend as isis called on supporters to carry out new attacks. cnn s justice correspondent pamela brown is here with that. reporter: there s more concern this fourth of july among counterterrorism officials and here s why. the symbolling holiday falls during the same time as ramadan and they are encouraging supporters to launch attacks during this time and be awarded even more. also officials say that isis has a major impact on social media. that was not the case the last fourth of july to this extent. it s also becoming
about that. and that s their major fear. troubling when you think about that. authorities are doing what they can to put precautions forward before this weekend. we re learning the nypd will have bomb-sniffing dogs and heavily armed police squads out on the streets. but are there other measures the public may not be aware of that authorities are likely to take this year to counter the terror threat? i think the fbi will be more aggressive than the police. they ll knock on people s doors, get search warrants try to look through people stuff, see if they have a weapon. it s that kind of connection they re looking for. whether there s an overt act that one of these people take. it s a needle in a haystack. they are on this. but one is going to get through eventually. i keep hearing when i talk co counterterrorism officials hearing the word defuse. it s so hard to keep track and detect all the threats out
law enforcement officials are ramping up for the fourth of july weekend. the action coming after authorities got word of a possible terrorist attack from isis supporters here in the united states. pamela brown joins us with this ahead of a long weekend. speaking to counterterrorism officials about the weekend. the feeling i m getting, the sense i m getting is there is more concern this fourth of july from last fourth of july. they are using social media to reach out and this one coincides with the holy month of ramadan. if they attack now, they will be rewarded more than ever. sources say there is increased chatter leading into this weekend. that is what is behind the fbi bulletin sent out friday. the big concern remains the lone wolf the extremists that could act out any moment. we have seen law enforcement
and recent months is this sort of lone wolf terrorism, people not connected operationally, organizally organizationally to groups overseas. we have seen them reach out to americans over social media to encourage them to launch attacks. we saw that with the attempted attack in garland, texas, a few weeks ago. in recent weeks evidence emerging that isis over these online messaging apps now providing detailed bombmaking guidance to followers in the west. that s a very concerning new development. all of that plays into this warning, pam. that peer-to-peer communication encryption really concerning to counterterrorism officials. and i think why we re seeing this heightened alert. paul cruickshank, thank you so much. we appreciate it. and just ahead right here in newsroom, no teleprompter? no problem. chris christie wants to tell it
