where we can find common ground with russia? clearly it s not ukraine or syria but maybe north korea. well, i mean, here s the thing, it s really difficult to find that very narrow overlap in the venn diagram of cooperation with russia, especially when you know, you know, that russia s primary interest really geopolitically is sort of the zero sum game where they want to gain to the, you know, the expense of the united states. you have to ask that very hard question, so where can we cooperate? some people have said counterterrorism. there is the reporting recently the cia provided counterterrorism information that was useful in thwarting an attack in russia. so there may be some very limited situations where we can help them on counterterrorism stuff. but even that can oftentimes be manipulated by the russians. north korea, i really don t see why russia can really provide any positive thing. and in syria, we were kind of
trump in the same room. putin is the ex head of russian intelligence. he is good at charming world leaders. he has charmed previous u.s. presidents. he had both george w. bush and president barack obama thinking that russia and the united states could reach some sort of cooperative arrangement on things like counter terrorism. every time according to the officials that i have spoken to that dealt with russia in the past that were near to what they thought was a good give-and-take russia would use that relationship to get one over on them. if russia invaded the u crain and said, you have to stop doing that, they said, we are not going to share x, y, z, counterterrorism information with you. they worry this is what trump is going to get convince today do,
this is certainly not a typical case when it comes to these leaks, stephanie. it was easy to find her. should information this sensitive be given, you know, be this widely disseminated? well, stephanie, i think this is one of the consequences of 9/11. we went from a need to know model, need to share model. primarily in the realm of counterterrorism information but it has extended to other realms including counter intelligence and when it comes to russia s meddling in our election and malicious behavior around the globe it is important we share it with our close allies. not only in the united states russia was intent on interfering, it was in france as we saw the other week, it s in germany later this year, it could be throughout europe. it is quite important that we share this information widely including with our closest allies. colonel, while easy to catch this woman, is it a justified arrest or is she a whistleblower? she s not a whistleblower. i m speak as a whistleblower.
