Guest column: Don t let JEA report get shelved

The City Council Special Investigative Committee report on the failed attempt to sell JEA was formally released to the council and the public on Monday Jan. 4. It started with these words: “Government without transparency is a breeding ground for mischief.”
What follows in the next 132 pages of the report is documented example after example cited by the committee’s special counsel of how policies, processes and procedures were bypassed, ignored and abandoned by the city administration and JEA executives.
Most recently, Feb. 3, in a publication from the Energy And Policy Institute written by Daniel Tait, it was reported, “NextEra received favorable treatment in Jacksonville, despite the veneer of an open bidding process.”
