Alexis Geissler, owner of CraftWorx in Richmond.Â
Alexis Geissler is among several Fort Bend County residents who have lost electricity in their homes this week, with her lights cutting out Tuesday night in Richmondâs Waterview Estates neighborhood.Â
Geissler, a mother of two young children and the owner of CraftWorx, a do-it-yourself craft studio in Richmond, had a decision to make when she realized her studio still had power.
So she opened her doors to families looking to escape the cold and to charge electronic devices, offering free crafts to help entertain kids.Â
âI know a lot of people in the community have kids, and I have kids,â Geissler said. âI just wanted to give them a place to come and get out of the house.â
The Stafford City Council voted 6-0 to make Alice Chen the cityâs new Mayor Pro Tem during a Jan. 20 council meeting, following Don Jonesâ resignation from the position.Â
Jones read his resignation letter to the council during the meeting, and cited among the reasons for his decision to step down from the Mayor Pro Tem position the length of the term, which was shortened to six months due to a change in the cityâs election cycle brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. It also postponed the 2020 city council and mayoral elections from May to November, mandated by orders from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.Â
