The idea for the project came from longtime Hartford resident and activist Prince, who said she was dissatisfied with the lack of representation of Black excellence throughout the city.
The Hartford City Council is set to consider a resolution to study the feasibility of constructing a city-owned, full-service grocery store in the North End.
The area currently lacks a grocery store within 1 mile, making it a food desert, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The resolution, introduced by Councilman Joshua Michtom and Councilwoman Tiana Hercules, is on the agenda for the council’s Oct. 11 meeting.
