City Of Tulsa Getting Another $9 5M For Emergency Rental Assistance

Another round of emergency rental assistance funding is on its way to Tulsa. The city is receiving a $3.8 million initial disbursement from a total award of $9.5 million in the American Rescue Plan. The new funding is on top of $12 million in a previous coronavirus relief package to help pay late rent and utilities.  City COVID Relief Funds Manager Alisa Dougless said the guidance for the new funds is less restrictive. The original was rent and utility and housing stability, but it had to have a direct or indirect relationship to COVID. This actually, Treasury has been exceptional in responding to public inquiry and has made these where now this money is just during the time of COVID, Dougless said.

Between moving costs, security deposits, temporary hotel stays and other relocation costs, relocating everyone left at Vista Shadow Mountain could cost more than $600,000. Under the latest Treasury Department guidance, it s possible some of the city’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program funding could be used toward that, but rental availability in the city is currently low. Most tenants at the complex paid market rates of between $700 and $1,400 a month.

Vista Shadow Mountain Tenants Told To Move Out Within 2 Weeks All the residents in a Tulsa apartment complex are now being told they have to move out within two weeks. The Tulsa Fire Department ordered the owners of Vista Shadow Mountain Apartments to clear out residents by July 21, because of unsafe conditions in the complex. The fire department estimates about 200 people live in the complex, which is mostly vacant. A team of fire marshals spread out through the complex Thursday, planning to inspect every building and look inside every unit. Many of the buildings have water damage. Some occupied apartments are without complete walls and ceilings, and some have exposed wiring, which was cited by the Fire Department in the order to vacate.
