Who decides what a job pays? Generally, it’s the employer, and that principle should weigh into the current case of the Honolulu City Council member salaries.
So far, only non-greedy City Councilmembers Augie Tulba and Andria Tupola have stood up for not approving the 64% pay hike (“2 Honolulu Council members urge rejection of salary hikes,” Star-Advertiser, May 3).
I think it’s time for City Council Chairman Tommy Waters to look for another job. It’s quite obvious he doesn’t want to discuss with voters the issue of Council members receiving a 64% pay raise.
Local governments across the country are discussing laws to establish “sensitive places,” where concealed firearms are not allowed. One bill has already passed through the Hawaiʻi County Council, and a similar bill was introduced at the Honolulu City Council.
