As a scandal over secret recordings of Los Angeles city leaders unfolds, one person in the room, Ron Herrera, has deep connections to Long Beach politics and is facing calls to resign.
While it’s unclear what effect this has had on the city's rising homelessness numbers, a Metro representative said that it is aware that this policy puts some unhoused people into cities that they’re not originally from.
Mayor Robert Garcia said that city leaders have worked hard in recent years to redirect city policy to address the needs of all neighborhoods in the city, and he said Councilmember Rex Richardson is best suited to continue that work.
The all-electric shuttles will give people free rides inside two service areas that include Downtown and southeast Long Beach. Service is expected to start in October.
