Guest Essay: Leave these 30 acres to God and nature
Joel Freedman
After reading Sarah Gross’s beautifully written and compelling Dec. 17 essay, “Proposed land development is hardly ‘desolate,’” I phoned Gross to thank her for reminding our community that our “live and let live” philosophy should include all God’s creations, not just humans. Her essay calls to mind the words of naturalist Konrad Lorenz: “Most people have forgotten how to live with living creatures, with living systems, and that, in turn, is the reason why man, whenever he comes into contact with nature, threatens to kill the natural system in which and from which he lives.”
