A majority of those new cameras will be placed in New Orleans East, where an increase in violent crimes has led some families to live in fear. “This is a big step. This is a major step because now the criminals know somebody’s watching,” said concerned New Orleans East resident John Alfred. “Maybe that can slow them [criminals] down. At least it’s some form of prevention.”
