Fresno officials and faith-based leaders call for unity as Inauguration Day nears

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) The City of Fresno and several local pastors on Tuesday called for unity as President-elect Joe Biden s inauguration nears.
Mayor Jerry Dyer was joined by Fresno City Council President Luis Chavez, Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama, and faith-based leaders.
The group urged the community to remain calm and civil as Biden is set to become the 46th President of the United States on Wednesday.
Dyer and Balderrama also discussing increased security measures throughout the city during this time. They did not give details, but said law enforcement agencies were prepared to tackle any potential violence in the city.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) Days after Fresno City Councilmember Luis Chavez proposed a five-day closure of all retail businesses within the city, he said Wednesday he will now work with the council to refine the language in the draft of the proposed emergency bill.
In the original draft obtained by Action News on Monday, Fresno s emergency shutdown order would last five days once the number of available ICU beds in the county is down to zero.

Dec. 22 As one of the regions facing the highest increase in coronavirus cases across the state, Fresno County on Monday reported 89 new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the countywide total to 646 since the pandemic began, according to state data.
The county also added 952 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, pushing the total to 58,568 since March.
December is now Fresno County s deadliest related month tied to the pandemic with about 167 deaths. The previous record was 152 deaths in August.
