Wilmington and New Hanover officials want to spend $50 million on affordable housing, but don t quite know how yet

At the meeting, the city council members and county commissioners who make up the committee nudged forward plans for a housing bond. The ad hoc committee heard from staff about four possible buckets of money that the $50 million housing bond could go into: developing affordable housing, public-private partnership, homeownership, and rehabilitation. Listen here. Councilmember O Grady asked for more details regarding the forgiving of $15,000 in owed fees by Jawsome Entertainment LLC. City Council has a long night ahead of them this week. The consent agenda features nine resolutions to consider, and councilmembers are eager to dive in.  “I’d like to hear some discussion about how this happened, that we got through a whole season, apparently a successful season, and we didn t get paid any of the rent and what will we do to make sure that does not happen again.” That’s Councilmember Kevin O’Grady. Wilmington Sharks Baseball, or Jawsome Entertainment LLC, is asking council to waive $15,000 in Owed Fees, with other conditions stipulated.
