“We know that when there are more guns in our communities, there are more firearm deaths,” Attorney General Rob Bonta said at the event. “We don’t need to have guns.”
As of Wednesday morning, just 14% of the ballots sent to Los Angeles County voters were returned, which means thousands of voters decided influential races for Los Angeles and Long Beach mayoral positions and others instead of hundreds of thousands.
Voters went to the polls in record numbers during the 2020 election cycle, but this year the turnout is far more lackluster, with just 8% of ballots returned and five days to go until the primary election on June 7.
Community members, along with city leaders, have rallied behind the Palacios family for more than a month after the deaths of 42-year-old Jose and 3-year-old Samantha when a pickup truck crashed into the family's studio apartment on March 1.
