Jacksonville officials will open a COVID-19 vaccination site in the city’s Northside for just two days Friday and Saturday to administer shots to 975 people, Mayor Lenny Curry said Thursday.
The pop-up vaccination site at the Clanzel Brown Senior Center, 4575 Moncrief Road, will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day for people 65 or older, frontline medical personnel and first responders.
“If and when more vaccines become available, we will be ready to open additional sites in other areas of the community,” Curry said.
Unlike other vaccination sites, no appointments will be scheduled, but Curry said some seniors can be given vouchers to return later in the day to minimize the time spent waiting in long lines.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – While the coronavirus pandemic dominated global and national headlines in 2020, it also gripped the local news, hitting close to home for those who tested positive for COVID-19, know someone who did or lost a loved one.
A man is in critical condition after a Sunday night shooting at the Gold Rush Inn at 10885 Harts Road, the Jacksonville Sheriff s Office said.
This is the second shooting in less than a month on that stretch of Harts Road, the site of a community protest on Nov. 22 demanding the city shut the motel down after a string of homicides, shootings and other incidents there and nearby this year.
City Councilman Reggie Gaffney said he learned Sunday s victim is 20, after speaking to police officials at the scene Sunday night.
He said he gets daily complaints from residents about problems around that motel and other crimes along that stretch of Harts Road, just south of multiple communities in his district. He s working with the state Department of Business and Professional Regulation and Sheriff s Office, and said he plans to meet with city officials soon to find a way to get the Gold Rush Inn declared a health and safety nuisance.
