Irving, city s first elected African American woman, is mayor pro tem

On a historic night for Victorville, which saw the ushering in of its first all-female City Council, the elected body selected Debra Jones as mayor and newcomer Leslie Irving as mayor pro tem.
Following certification of the results from the Nov. 3 election on Tuesday during a special meeting, each City Council member was asked to make nominations for mayor and mayor pro tem.
Unlike Adelanto and Barstow s, Victorville s mayor is not elected. Rather, voters elect council members, and the City Council later votes to appoint one of its own to the position. This process is similar in Apple Valley and Hesperia.
