The Alexandria City Council this week appointed an interim member to replace Harry Silver and also set a public hearing on condemning 26 houses.
Council members voted unanimously to appoint attorney Catherine Davidson to the District 4 seat, vacated when former Councilman Harry Silver announced his resignation that took effect Feb. 28.
A special election to fill the seat is expected later this year.
Davidson, who ran unsuccessfully in 2018 for mayor, and another attorney, Maria Losavio, were nominated for the interim spot. But Losavio s nomination was rejected by a 4-2 vote.
The council also unanimously passed a resolution calling for an April 6 public meeting to take action on the cost of demolishing 26 residential structures.
