Lebanon City Council will vote on whether to ban abortion Tuesday night.
The proposed ordinance would also declare the city of 20,000 in Southwest Ohio a sanctuary city for the unborn.
It s sponsored by six of the seven members of city council. Based on the brief on the council s agenda, it s not clear what the penalties or legal ramifications of the ordinance would be. The ordinance to outlaw abortion is listed on the agenda along with the typical city items like approving a road salt contract and okaying subdivisions.
Mayor Amy Brewer declined to comment Monday morning.
Lebanon would join a growing list of Republican-controlled cities and states that have passed measures to restrict abortion with the hope of convincing the U.S. Supreme Court to reconsider the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.
